Our Breton tree species
Each cutting board we make is unique, handcrafted from local woods selected for their beauty, strength and durability.
These are the woods we love to work with — each with its own character, grain and soul.
The oak
Solid and timeless, oak is a classic in the world of craftsmanship. Its distinctive grain and warm hue make it a wood that is both robust and elegant. Ideal for everyday cutting boards like our Armor board.
The walnut tree
Walnut is a noble and elegant wood, recognizable by its deep brown color and subtly veined chocolate hues. Dense and stable, it's the perfect wood for high-end cutting boards: both durable and smooth under the knife. Its dark appearance brings a refined and contemporary touch to the kitchen, while its fine texture reveals the pleasure of the craftsmanship. Each walnut board is unique—a true object of character.
Maple
Light, smooth, and bright, maple adds a touch of softness to our boards. We love pairing it with walnut to create a striking contrast, like our Bili board.
The chestnut tree
Chestnut is a naturally strong and durable wood, prized for its golden hue and vibrant grain. Both lightweight and robust, it offers a beautiful alternative to oak for cutting boards with rustic and authentic charm. Its natural warmth makes it a must-have in inviting kitchens.
The pear tree
A rare and precious wood, pear wood is prized for its soft hue and silky texture. It is dense and stable, ideal for refined cutting boards. Its velvety feel and delicate pinkish color make it an exceptional material, perfect for those seeking elegance and authenticity.
The ash tree
Light and vibrant, ash is a flexible and durable wood, ideal for strong yet lightweight boards. Its contrasting grain gives it a unique style, highly prized in handcrafted creations. It combines natural beauty with great longevity, perfect for everyday use.
The wild cherry tree
Cherry wood is distinguished by its warm, rosy tones that age beautifully. It's a wood that brings softness and warmth to the kitchen. Its fine texture and delicate grain make it both aesthetically pleasing and a joy to use every day. We often use it for our Menez chopping blocks.
The charm
Dense, white, and fine-grained, hornbeam lives up to its name. It's an extremely hard wood, ideal for precise cutting surfaces. Its smooth feel and light color lend a simple elegance to our boards. Uncommon, it appeals to connoisseurs who appreciate authentic, locally sourced woods.
