The wood of the grain
Cut wood with the grain , that is, parallel to the tree's growth. This is the most common cutting method for planks.
End grain
For end grain wood, the cut is made perpendicular to the tree's grain, that is, in the direction of the tree's growth , as if you were slicing a log to see its growth rings . This characteristic is what makes end grain boards, also called logs, extremely strong.
